ChatGPT Dots
for Marketing
Assign the job to a Dot only when it recurs, the data sits in a connected plugin, and a Custom Rule already says allow, approve, or block. For a marketer who will name one recurring job, connect HubSpot, Canva, Shopify, Klaviyo, Slack, or Teams, and review anything that publishes, sends, or spends. The chat window is enough when the question does not recur. Leave if the job is unattended Google or Meta spend (no first-party ads plugin). Leave if you need a standing org identity with IT-scoped credentials (specialist dots are a pilot, not a plan).
Who should assign a job to a Dot?
A Dot is a standing job with a plugin and a rule. A question you will not ask again stays in the chat window.
| You need | Stay or leave | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One answer, no next Monday | Leave. Use chat. | Nothing persists that you will not re-ask. |
| A weekly read from HubSpot, Canva, Shopify, Klaviyo, Slack, or Teams | Stay, after one rule | The plugin is the data. The rule is the gate. |
| The page, the email, or the ad to go live alone | Leave | Draft is allow. Publish, send, and spend are approve or block. |
| A Dot with its own IT credentials and a role | Leave for now | Specialist dots are a pilot. |
| Live Google or Meta changes | Leave this section | That decision is section 04. |
What may a Dot read, draft, and change?
The plugin decides the surface. The Custom Rule decides whether the Dot may touch it.
Reads: whatever the connected plugin exposes. First-party plugins to plan on: HubSpot, Canva, Shopify, Klaviyo, Slack, Teams. Search Console and GA4 only after a connector the connect-posts document. Drafts: posts, CRM notes, discount codes, briefs, ad recommendations. Klaviyo stays at draft and template. Changes: only an action a Custom Rule marks allow. Approve means the Dot finishes the draft and waits. Block means it does not do it. Approves: the person on approve and on block. Slack and Teams carry the ping. They are not the policy.
Custom Rules are allow, approve, or block. The custom-rules post’s four labels map onto these three: “take action without asking” is allow; “ask before” and “when you say so” are approve; “hand off to you” is block.
| Plugin | Reads | May change on allow | Rule for anything a customer sees or that spends |
|---|---|---|---|
| HubSpot | Contacts, deals, activities | Create and update records | Approve |
| Canva | Designs, brand kit | Create a design from a template | Approve before it is the asset you ship |
| Shopify | Orders, inventory, products | Discount codes, inventory flags | Approve |
| Klaviyo | Campaign and flow performance | Draft and template only | Block on send |
| Slack, Teams | Channel history | Post the summary | Approve. The ping is not the sign-off. |
| Google Ads, Meta Ads | Not a first-party plugin | Nothing native | Section 04 |
One job, one plugin, one rule, two weeks of drafts before you move any action from approve to allow.
Which recurring jobs stay in draft?
SEO, content, email, and the growth scoreboard are read-and-draft jobs. The Dot prepares the decision. A person publishes. The publish step is content-led growth, not a wider allow-rule.
| Job | Reads | Drafts | Changes | Who ships |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weekly funnel, experiment backlog, channel scoreboard | GA4 or HubSpot. Not the ad account. | Monday diagnosis, one test, what moved | Nothing | You, in the growth meeting |
| SEO | Search Console, once connected | Refresh brief, title | Not the URL | You |
| AEO | The same, plus whether answers cite you | The passage you would want cited | Not the page | You |
| Website | Search Console and GA4 | Decay queue, CRO note | Nothing | You |
| Content | Notion, Drive, Canva | The post and the asset | A Canva file on allow | You publish |
| Klaviyo performance | Flow copy, template | No send | You send |
Why can’t a Dot run Google or Meta ads alone?
There is no first-party ads plugin. A third-party MCP can show the account and queue a change. The Dot proposes. You approve. That is still not an agent inside the ad account.
| Path | What you get | What you do not get |
|---|---|---|
| Native Dot plugin | Nothing. It is not in the plugin list. | A settings screen, an API key, a write. |
| Third-party MCP | Reads of campaigns, terms, budgets, as the connect posts describe | A change that goes live without you |
| ChatGPT Ads | A place to buy ads inside ChatGPT | Your Google or Meta account |
| This job, done as an ads agent | A gated change on the account | A Dot allow-rule |
Google leaves to AI agents for Google Ads. Meta leaves to AI agents for Meta Ads. Both channels leave to performance marketing agents. The Dot still does not run the ad account; the Metaflow plugin runs that agent from ChatGPT.
What must a person still send?
The Dot can research and draft outbound. It cannot send, and it cannot click around LinkedIn.
| Job | Dot does | Block |
|---|---|---|
| Cold email | Research, sequence draft | Send |
| Outbound system | Prospect brief | Enrollment and send |
| Weekday ICP scan, post drafts, ads read, company brief | Browser on linkedin.com. Posting, messages, connection requests. |
The four LinkedIn jobs are the ones in the LinkedIn post: morning ICP scan, content drafts, LinkedIn Ads summary, company-intelligence brief.
The send is outbound automation.

What can a Dot not do?
If the row says leave, do not write an allow-rule to cover it.
Checklist
- No first-party Google or Meta ads plugin.
- The Metaflow plugin is a Metaflow workspace inside ChatGPT, not an ads plugin and not a CRM plugin.
- Specialist dots: pilot only. A personal Dot on Pro or Business Premium is what you can staff now.
- Klaviyo: no send. LinkedIn: no automation in the browser. Email and pages: a person ships.
- ChatGPT Ads is not Google Ads and not Meta Ads.
- One client’s allow-rule does not cover the next client. Agencies copy the rules and split the Dots. They do not share a Dot across accounts.
- Prompts are the job description. They are not the gate. The rule is the gate.
