The buyer already has a tool. Your job is to name why it is the wrong tool.
Positioning for B2B SaaS almost always starts with a status-quo alternative: a spreadsheet, a horizontal suite, or last year’s specialist. The economic buyer is a VP who will be blamed if the swap fails. Do not write “an AI platform for teams.” Write the job, the cost of the current stack, and the proof a skeptic can check.
Buying groups of 3–7 people, a security review, and a “we already pay for X” objection. Category language has to match a budget line they already have.
Scribe — content ops analytics. The alternative is GA4 plus an agency. The buyer is a VP of Marketing who cannot show pipeline.
Scribe (B2B SaaS, Series B)
| Field | Filled |
|---|---|
| ICP | Mid-market B2B SaaS, 50–400 employees, Salesforce |
| Economic buyer | VP Marketing / Head of Content |
| Alternative | GA4 + agency retainer |
| Statement | For VPs of Marketing who cannot prove which articles created pipeline, Scribe is content performance analytics that joins every URL to a Salesforce opportunity. |
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Invented category (“revenue OS”) | Pick the aisle the budget already uses until you can fund category design. |
| User persona as the only target | Name the economic buyer. Users do not sign the order. |
The frame stays. The first line on the homepage changes. PLG leads with the job; sales-led leads with the outcome the VP is measured on.
