One or two sentences that tell a specific buyer why you beat the alternative they already have.
A value proposition template is a short form for the buyer-facing promise: who it is for, what costly problem it removes, and why you — not the status quo. This value proposition statement template is for product marketers and founders who need a line sales will actually repeat.
Three tests: relevance (do you name their problem?), credibility (can you prove the outcome?), and differentiation (why not the tool they already pay for?). If any test fails, the homepage becomes wallpaper.
The role and the event that started the search.
A recurring pain with a number attached when you have one.
What changes after they buy — time, money, or risk.
The thing that makes the outcome possible. Not a feature tour.
The spreadsheet, agency, or rival they would keep using.
A metric, customer, or demo a skeptic can check.
SignalAI sells pipeline visibility to VPs of Sales who are 40% behind quota. The line had to work on a homepage, in a first email, and on a discovery call.
SignalAI (pipeline visibility)
| Field | Filled |
|---|---|
| Buyer | VP of Sales at 80–250 person B2B SaaS |
| Trigger | Two quarters behind quota; forecast is gut feel |
| Problem | Reps log inconsistently; CRM cannot explain slipped deals |
| Outcome | A forecast the CRO will defend in the board deck |
| Unlike | Another dashboard layered on a dirty CRM |
| Proof | Time-to-first-useful-view under 14 days, no SQL |
Steal the words the buyer used for the pain. Do not invent a nicer synonym.
Missed quota, extra AE hours, or a slipped renewal. Vague pain dies in review.
Often “do nothing” or a spreadsheet. That is still a competitor.
Promise + because. If the because is a buzzword, you are not done.
Homepage five-second scan, first outbound email, discovery-call playback.
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Mission statement dressed as a value prop | If it could sit on any Series B site, delete it. |
| Feature list instead of an outcome | Lead with the change in the buyer’s week. |
| No alternative named | Without “unlike,” you have a slogan. |
One or two sentences. If you need a paragraph, you have a brochure, not a proposition.
Positioning is internal. The value proposition is what the buyer hears. Fill positioning first, then adapt the promise.
Yes — keep the outcome and proof stable. Swap the trigger for the account. The outbound value-prop draft task is built for that.
